L-R: Daniel Alcheh, Jimmy Hinson, Chris Merritt at the 2008 Composer Expo in NYCThe International Alliance of Composers is a non-profit organization of composers from all over the world. We come together as a guild and a trade organization built of, by and for composers. We provide unique benefits and services designed to empower working composers in their careers and their professional lives. From minimum wage suggestions for composition jobs to free lectures and seminars, we provide a comprehensive set of member benefits and work hard to ensure that the IAC serves as a vital resource for working composers.

There are many organizations that support songwriters and lyricists, but we are unique as we are focused primarily on issues and the quality of life for composers. As a composer specific organization, we have the distinct pleasure and responsibility of addressing issues that affect composers on a local, national and global basis. Read our mission statement and find out more about what we do, the benefits of membership, and the services we offer.

IAC Composers Rights Committee (CRC)

One of the first tasks of the IAC has been to develop the IAC Composers Rights Committee. This committee is designed to advise the IAC's political and economic positions with regards to composers and the industry of which we are participants; and to present documentation, petitions and activities on composer rights issues to the world at large. The committee is made up of some of the finest minds in our industry, and among them are people who have been fighting for composer rights for more than twenty years.

Composers in today's world face problems and issues that are unheard of in any other industry.

Some of these issues date back sixty or more years, when precedents were set under a very different industry and economy. In this new age, digital technology has been the catalyst of change for all levels of the industry. Some of those changes have hurt as well as helped. Today we have a unique opportunity to use this time of new structures and economy to improve the position of composers. And with the IAC being proactive to champion composers' rights, we as composers will finally have a fighting chance to see the changes and improvements we have been desperately seeking for generations. A brief list of some of the Composer Rights Issues we are considering include:

  • Composer DVD Royalties
  • Movie Theater Performance Royalties for Composers
  • Cue Sheet Fraud and Accountability
  • Royalty Payment Equality for Song v. Score
  • The ASCAP Composers Bill of Rights
  • Work for Hire
  • Composer Minimum Scale
  • DRM, digital downloads and Piracy in the new digital millenium
  • Many more issues
